Feb 5th 2016- I traveled 665 miles last fall (2015), because Maresa had BES Rex dumbo babies that were well bred and well socialized. I'm just starting my second year with rats and I consider her a mentor. She is very patient with my questions and great as a reference source. Definitely a good resource for adding rats to your family. As a bonus we share an interest in barn hunt and I want to raise a small number of rats to keep as pets and to train to work at barn hunt lessons and trials. Maresa supports a barn hunt page with helpful info.
Flora from VA:
Feb 16th 2016 My rat from here is wonderful! Best personality, very healthy and totally gorgeous! Owner is very nice and responds to questions very quickly. I highly recommend adopting rats from MAC Rattery. My little girl was totally worth the long drive!

February 4th 2016 Maresa, the owner of Mac Rattery has become my go to person when I need information concerning rat care. She is extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to the well-being of these charming little beings and is extremely open about her breeding program. I am half-way across the country from Mac Rattery, but am seriously considering future rats from her breedings! Well-worth a road trip!

February 16 2016 · I found Maresa at MAC Rattery a few years ago and I won't go anywhere else! February 3 2016 · Five years ago I discovered Mac Rattery after experiencing first hand the unreliable temperaments and health problems that come with big chain pet store rats, not to mention the unethical conditions in which those pet store rats are breed. Maresa at Mac Rattery cares deeply about her rats' temperaments and health, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. Not only are her ratties happy and healthy, but she is always willing to answer questions and help you with any issues that may arise. Mac Rattery is my number one source for happy, healthy, and ethically breed pet rats:)

The ratties are GREAT! We've had family and friends visit over the holidays and everyone is really surprised about how cute they are. Even my mother-in-law who has a rat phobia let them crawl on her. Rowley (the rex) is slightly more social and dominant than Greg, but they're both very well adjusted. Every morning they come up to greet me when I open the shades in my sons room and then they get a good scratch behind the ears. They are somewhat litter box trained, and they love to scuffle around with each other, especially at night! And they're getting BIG! It's so fun to learn about their favorite foods. They both love my husband's homemade pasta and also seaweed wrappers that are used to make sushi rolls. Thanks again for such wonderful pets!

Hi Maresa, 2014
We were reflecting on the day we came to get our ratties (2 Rex/Harley mix brothers)
last year and how well they are doing. Our son has grown to
totally love them and they have been so gentle and kind.
Neighbors got gerbils and guinea pigs that have bitten and
been shy, but the ratties continue to be so good and gentle
even with multiple kids playing with them. Our son loves them
so much now and my husband even feeds them apples and leftovers
secretly every night....:)

Hi Maresa,
We are all enjoying our new pets. Adara makes sure their water is full and I make Liam help clean out their cage. We have them in our sleeves or on our shoulder during various parts of the day. I notice how much more hand-tamed they are than Rose, whom we got from the pet store. This isn’t a surprise to you, I’m sure!

We adopted 2 female rats from you in early September. Their names are Sprinkles and Brownie and they are wonderful! Sprinkles is very social and a bit of a spaz. Brownie is a bit shy but loves to be active. Both love my kids and we all adore them. We had 7 kids at the house over the weekend and it was amazing that ALL 7 kids played with the girls for hours......and the girls loved all the attention. Anyway, the kids have been pushing to get another rat (or two). So, since we already have 2 girls, could we get another girl or 2? Do you have any litters anticipated?

Hi Maresa,,The boys are doing great! They took to their new home right away and seem very happy. They have already chosen a few special places to sleep. They are very easy to handle and come willingly whenever we walk by the cage. We have taken them out many times and they enjoy hanging out on Catarina's shoulder and playing in the toys that we got for them. They have a large stuffed octopus with many in and out holes that they seem to like a lot. They are eating and drinking regularly and have chosen a 'bathroom' corner.
Our dogs are very interested but seem to be calming down. The boys are not afraid of them at all. They come up to them and touch noses and even nibble on the chihuahua's nails when she leans them against the cage.
We will definitely keep you updated. Thanks for raising such awesome boys!- Delia and Catarina

No one makes me feel more loved than those two fat little dwarfs. No one. When we sit on the couch and they run all over and then cuddle or beg to be petted, and their little tails go wild with joy, and then when I get up they jump up and beg me not to go, and when I come back they jump to the edge and wait... Seriously they have so much love in their little hearts.

Hi Maresa,
Just wanted you to know that the ratties are going great! They are all together now. The intro’s went really well. Molly seemed to bond with Winnie. I always find them snuggled in a hammock together. Molly also likes to give me a manicure. She cleans under my nails, chews my nails, and sometimes even helps with my cuticles! They are getting so big and squishy! They are so sweet, I just love them! I see that you have some babies, just wondering if you will have any boys available? I know I will have to get them neutered since they will hopefully be with the girls. Let me know when you get a minute. Thanks so much and Thank you SOOOOO much for the babies! I love them!

I have 5 rats total from MAC and they are all so special. Each one of the girls has their own personality, but all share the same traits: love people, easily handled, love to play, super sweet and squishy! Every time I meet with MAC it is completely professional and you can tell she truly loves her rats as much as I do. I don't even mind driving the hour and 15 minutes- it's well worth it. I am so thankful to have these girls in my life and I know they will grow and develop to be even more fantastic then they are already."

We just love her! We're very glad that you didn't keep her. :)
My 5-year-old son was visiting at his grandparents' house for the last few days, and he saw her today for the first time. He is so thrilled. He named her "Beautiful."
We are enjoying getting to know her and her personality. She's absolutely adorable. We spread a big blanket out on our living room floor, and she loves to explore--but she never leaves the blanket. It's the cutest thing. She'll go to the edge, stretch out her nose and sniff, then turn around and run on the blanket some more. She also loves to be petted.
Thanks so much for helping to make our family so happy!

Just a quick note…The girls had their first check-up today and they did great!
It was actually funny because he was pushing the Oxbow Regal Rat diet as one of the best food for rats. I told him how none of your rats had ever had mammary tumors and he couldn’t believe it! He was also pushing getting them spayed to insure their longevity…and yes, it does cost $315 per rat!!!! He told me not to worry if he found mites, lice or respiratory infection, since that isn’t terribly unusual in rats that come from populations where they are exposed to lots of other rats. I didn’t say a whole lot, other than I was committed to keeping them on the diet you designed for them. He backed right down and said he couldn’t really say what the effect of that diet would be since he’s never really heard of a rat eating the three types of dog food, but he did think it was an interesting concept. I think once I told him you were a vet tech as well as a breeder, he was much more open to considering the merit of their diet.
Then he examined them, and boy did his tune change! He was blown away by how healthy they were! Their lungs were clear, their hearts sounded fantastic, no swollen lymph nodes, no abscesses, no lice, no mites, and perfect teeth, but what really impressed him was the quality of their coats. He went on and on about how gorgeous their fur was! So I suspect he’s rethinking his stance that Regal Rat is ONLY good diet for rats. The vet tech who assisted with the exam was amazed about how “unstressed” they were at being examined. He said it’s rare that he examines a rat that doesn’t “stress poop” and clearly that is an indication of how well they have been socialized and how much they have been handled.
So you get the gold star today! Give yourself a big pat on the back for breeding such wonderful, healthy, sweet little rattie girls. We are so in love with them and they bring us so much joy each day!
Thanks for everything!

Maresa is so friendly and you can tell she loves her rats. My first 2 girls I received from MAC were Zen and Delilah, a Russian blue and a hairless. Delilah loves getting her belly rubbed and being in the middle of things. Zen likes to follow us around the house and seeing what we are up to. They were well socialized and fit right in to the family. After a not so great experience with a major breeder, I was so thrilled with my experience with MAC. I have gotten many rats from Maresa since then and frequently recommend MAC Rattery to others.

Love my two boys from the rattery. They have become part of our family - Sammy the fearless, and Freddy, the shy one. Maressa is a great person. I would highly recommend a rattie from her.

I adopted three girls from Maresa and they are the most amazing rats I have ever met. They have wonderful temperaments, beautiful little faces, and are extremely social. Even the two year old in my life loves them! I would adopt from her again anytime.

Maresa is a wonderful woman and mother to both her kiddos and ratties! She gave me the pleasure of being mommy to both Zeus and Zero!! My little love boys! Her rats are friendly, clean, and just fantastic personalities! She's really helped me learn alot about ratties and is always there when questions need answered. She's the first breeder i've gone to and probably the last as i'll take my love for ratties only to her! Thank you Maresa!
